A friend of mine is 20 weeks along, expecting a precious baby boy! So exciting! As the mother of a 13 month old baby boy, I can only think how wonderful!!! Baby boys are cuddly and sweet and yummy and precious and all things scrumptious! I am making my friend a playmat for her to use at mothers' group and when they go visiting.
The playmat measures about 1 yard square. I have used organic fabrics for the top of the playmat. The top is pieced very simply, consisting of four large squares, two each of two different fabrics.
I have quilted a simple 2 1/2 " grid pattern, which works nicely given the grids in the patterns of each of the fabrics in the top.
The theme for this project was intergalactic robots. Fun! Now, you might say that my colour choices, particularly the backing (see below) are a little strong for a new baby boy and ordinarily I would agree. I am quite partial to soft colours for newborns. However, by using stronger colours, the playmat won't show any dust or other marks it might pick up at mothers' group.
Now I just have to finish hand sewing on the binding tape.
